Spirit Consulting Places Two HR Leaders for Duke Raleigh Hospital

Mar 6, 2020

Spirit Consulting was recently retained by Duke University Health System at their Duke Raleigh Hospital to commence a search involving two leaders for the Human Resources department. Duke Health sought two new Assistant Directors of Human Resources for the hospital to revitalize the employee culture and work function for the Hospital. After understanding Duke Raleigh Hospital’s needs, Spirit Consulting conducted a search for an Assistant Director of Human Resources—Operations and an Assistant Director of Human Resources—Employee Experience that would solidify the department and provide stability for years to come. Following a copious and particular search, Spirit Consulting’s Principal James Malik recruited the ideal candidates to fill the positions at Duke Health. Kelly Johnson, MBA, was hired for the Assistant Director of Human Resources—Employee Experience (ADHR-EE) role with Adam Tabor, MBA, hired for the Assistant Director of Human Resources—Operations (ADHR) position.

Kelly Johnson brings nearly 15 years of Human resources experience—with 10 years as a Human Resources Business Partner—to the role of Assistant Director of Human Resources—Employee Experience at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Johnson earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with a Human Resources concentration at North Carolina State University before earning her Master’s in Business Administration from Campbell University in 2009. She began her HR career as a recruiter but quickly became a Business Partner and Programs Specialist while working for Dex Media. After nine years with the company, Kelly took the role of Senior HR Business Partner at Charter Communications, where she collaborated with key leaders and stakeholders in order to develop high performing teams that drove success. These team-building and workplace evaluation skills come with Johnson as she begins to lead the Duke Raleigh Hospital Human Resources staff to greater cohesion and rapport as a unit.

Adam Tabor comes to Duke Raleigh Hospital from the University of Kentucky Healthcare system, where he spent nearly two years as a Senior Human Resource Business Partner. While there, Tabor works in a variety of areas—proving his versatility and effectiveness in an HR environment. He spent the previous six years as a Senior HR Business Partner at Mission Health System in Asheville, North Carolina, taking a more active role in leading other Business Partners and collaborating with senior leaders to provide strategic vision for the Human Resources department. In total, Adam holds nearly 12 years of experience in Human Resources into the ADHR position. He earned his Bachelor’s at Tusculum College in Organizational Management, a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from King University and is currently working towards earning a Doctorate Degree in Organizational Leadership from Northern Kentucky University.  Tabor’s role as Assistant Director of HR—Operations will best suit his ability to accomplish any task set before him.  He will be second in command within the Human Resources department to the CHRO—Alyson Gordon—and leading the HR operation function at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

Duke Health is committed to conducting innovative basic and clinical research, rapidly translating breakthrough discoveries to patient care and population health, providing a unique educational experience to future clinical and scientific leaders, improving the health of populations, and actively seeking policy and intervention-based solutions to complex global health challenges. Underlying these ambitions is a belief that Duke Health is a destination for outstanding people and a dedication to continually explore new ways to help their people grow, collaborate and succeed. The Duke Health mission, vision and values statements are the fundamental building blocks for Duke’s success as a leading national academic health center committed to advancing health together.

Spirit Consulting wishes Kelly and Adam the best of luck and is assured of their preparation to continue to lead the Duke Raleigh Hospital Human Resources Department to success. These candidates were specifically chosen based on their experience and cultural fit within the Duke Raleigh Hospital Department; as such, they will enhance the HR team chemistry and maximize potential for the department’s policies and procedures.
