About this episode
In this week’s episode, Christopher Gomez and Fabian Stone discuss leading with LOVE and getting results from uncomfortable conversations. Fabian shared his experience of overcoming backlash and racism in the healthcare sector, and how he was able to lead his team to greatness with LOVE – Listening, observing, validation, and execution.
Fabian’s leadership methodology demonstrates how by building trust and clarity, as well as finding a common ground based on respect, we can overcome impatience and fear, and achieve results from seemingly unbearable conversations between people with different beliefs.
Fabian Stone is a veteran in the medical technology and health care sector. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology at Winston-Salem State University, Fabian went on to work at UNC for ten years. He practiced as a laboratory scientist, working closely with hematology, blood bank, and early stem cell research. His experience as a laboratory scientist paths the way for his work in the healthcare industry.
With an introduction from his college professor, Fabian pursued the Diversity in Health Management program at the American Hospital Association, where he found his passion for promoting diversity in health care. He returned to UNC for graduation to learn more about healthcare and how he can make a difference in the system. With that passion, Fabian worked as a manager at Duke Medicine before becoming an Associate Vice President at Duke Health, focusing on the middle revenue cycle.
In addition to his role as Associate Vice President at Duke Health, Fabian also served as the president of the National Association of Healthcare Executives, a Black organization that focuses on empowering African-American professionals in the healthcare industry as well as developing underprivileged communities. Fabian’s extensive leadership experience allows him to manage organizations that best serve their communities and customers.
