Ep. 74 "A Touch of G.R.A.C.E." w/ Dr. Marcelle Davis
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In this week’s episode, Chris speaks with Dr. Marcelle Davis, Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for V.C.U. Health about her journey with D.E.I. issues and how that has shaped the leader she is today. Watch to learn how to implement Marcelle’s G.R.A.C.E. framework into your life and become a more inclusive leader.
When Marcelle was young, she moved to Brooklyn with her family and experienced some prominent racial clashes of the time. This shaped her views on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and created the sparks for what she would later do in her career. Her passion for inclusion continued until she created the G.R.A.C.E. system for inclusion and published a book guiding readers through it titled Measuring Inclusive Leadership with Grace.
She explains the importance of this G.R.A.C.E. model by sharing a moment in her life when she was able to help bring one of her past leaders to an inclusive mindset. She explained that the leader did not refer to women as doctors even if they had their doctoral degrees and that he was giving her feedback that was not connected to her work but rather to his assumptions of her character. By explaining this, she was able to widen his perspective and go on to help others with her G.R.A.C.E. system.
After the release of her book Measuring Inclusive Leadership with Grace in 2019, Marcelle continues to share her story and her work. Now, she joins us on the Virtuous Heroes Podcast to talk with us and allow viewers to learn more about diversity and inclusion.
